Dr. Elizabeth Karns, OD

Optometrist

Dr. Elizabeth Karns was born and raised in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated with honors from Northern York High School In 2009. She was recruited to play division I collegiate field hockey at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she served as a team captain her senior year. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 2013 with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a National College Athlete Honors Society.

She went on to receive her doctorate of optometry from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University- School of Optometry in 2018, where she graduated salutatorian. She was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Sigma Kappa honor societies. During optometry school, she served as a board member of the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and completed a mission trip to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua in 2017.

After graduation, she completed a Residency in Ocular Disease from the New England College of Optometry in 2019 at the Manchester Veteran Affairs Medical Center in New Hampshire. She is an active member of the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Karns provides optometric services, including comprehensive eye health exams for all ages, contact lens fittings, diabetic eye exams and emergency eye visits. She enjoys diagnosing and managing ocular disease including glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eye disease, foreign body removal, and any other conditions that may affect eye health or vision. Dr. Karns believes that education is the cornerstone for better eye health and she strives to educate each patient about their eyes and advises on how to continue good eye wellness.

On a personal note, Dr. Karns loves all outdoor activities including water sports, running, hiking, biking, riding motorcycles and ATV’s, swimming, and snow-skiing. She also enjoys going to concerts, movies, football games, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Growing up, she was active with East Coast Field Hockey Club and went on to coach at summer camps, U-10, and U-13 girls teams. She also obtained her PIAA and USA Field Hockey Umpire Licenses. She is a lover of animals and volunteers at the local pet shelters.
